Shanghai Society of Refrigeration (SSR) was founded on April 29th 1981, which is a sub-branch of Shanghai Association of Science and Technology, and is under the guidance by Chinese Association of Refrigeration. Now there are more than 2000 members from universities, research institutes, design institutions and industries. It has a delegate member more than 40.

          The board directors were elected by the member representatives every 5 years. The 6th board was elected on Dec. 2002 and has 42 directors. The board contains six working committees and one secretary offi ce. The working committees are Academic Committee, Editorial Committee, Scientific Popularization and Training Committee, International Scientific and Technical Communication Committee, Correspondence Instructional Committee, Organization Committee.

There are 6 divisions for conference or seminar organization, they are

6th           Cryosurgery, Medical application, Freeze-drying, small refrigeration facilities

The main activities of SSR are as following:
1. To convene plenary session every two years
2. To hold seminars by divisions
3. To run training courses for popularization of refrigeration technology
4. To give correspondence course
5. To offer technical advisory service
6. To publish its own quarterly journal "Refrigeration Technique"
7. To participate or conduct international scientifi c communication activities
